Arriving by car |
||
There are four main routes into Plymouth City Centre by road.
| A38 from Cornwall
via Saltash A38 from Exeter, mid and east Devon A386 from Tavistock, Dartmoor and north Devon A379 from Kingsbridge and Salcombe |
Approaching from Cornwall via the Tamar Bridge or from Exeter / East
Devon (crossing the Marsh Mills 'flyover') continue on the A38 (The Parkway) until you see the sign
for the Manadon 'turn off'. Exit at the Manadon slip road and
then you have a choice of two routes to enter the city
centre.
You can follow the Mutley route (B3250) or the Outland Road (A386) route into the city.
We recommend the Mutley route as it is easier to access Mayflower Street (and
our premises) from
Drake Circus.
Also,
commencing 25th February 2008, Outland Road will suffer traffic delays due to road works
which are due to last for 38 weeks!
You also have a similar choice if you are approaching Plymouth from Tavistock, Dartmoor or North Devon (A386). You can either exit the A386 at Manadon roundabout and follow the Mutley route or you can continue along the A386 via Outland Road. Again, we recommend the Mutley route.
The Mutley (B3250) route into the City Centre
Exit at the Manadon slip road and follow the signs for the city centre (via Mutley - B3250). After approx 1 mile (2k) you should be travelling through Mutley Plain (dual carriageway) and after a further half mile (1 k) you should be approaching the city centre with the Drake Circus intersection and new Drake Circus Shopping Centre straight ahead. The University buildings should be on your right and the Plymouth Museum and Library on your left. At the intersection turn right into Coburg Street (westbound carriageway heading towards the railway station) for approx 100 yards (90 metres) before taking the 2nd left turning into Mayflower Street (there is a Shopmobility sign on the corner adjacent to the Money Centre building).
Continue westwards along Mayflower Street for a further 100 yards (90 metres) before turning left into Mayflower East car park.
Do not drive through the main car park entrance but turn left and follow the service road (one way system) around to the lower level - our car park has a barrier at the entrance. Please sound your horn for attention.
The A386 route into the City Centre
Having taken the Manadon exit from the A38, follow the road signs and proceed to the A386 (Outland Road). Head west along this road (you will pass Plymouth Argyle Football ground and Central Park on your left) and after approx 1 mile (2k) turn left into Alma Road on reaching the Milehouse roundabout complex. Continue along Alma Road for a further mile. You will eventually arrive at North Cross Roundabout (Near Railway station) where you take the second exit (towards the Bus station). At the Drake Circus intersection you are no longer able to access Mayflower Street (the University buildings are on your left) so you have to continue along the eastbound carriageway of Charles Street to Charles Cross roundabout (with the ruined church). Travel all the way around the roundabout and head back on the western bound carriageway of Charles Street. At the Drake Circus intersection keep to your left and travel along Cobourg Street for approx 100 yards (90 metres) before taking the 2nd left turning into Mayflower Street (there is a Shopmobility sign on the corner adjacent to the Money Centre building).
Approaching from A379 - Kingsbridge and Salcombe
Having crossed the River Plym via Laira Bridge you will approach the city centre along Gdynia Way and Exeter Street. You will see the ruins of Charles Church ahead of you located in the middle of Charles Cross roundabout. Take the second exit towards the Drake Circus road junction. At this intersection keep to your left and travel along Cobourg Street (towards the Railway Station) for approx 100 yards (90 metres) before taking the 2nd left turning into Mayflower Street (there is a Shopmobility sign on the corner adjacent to the Money Centre building).
Do not drive through the main car park entrance but turn left and follow the service road (one way system) around to the lower level - our car park has a barrier at the entrance. Please sound your horn for attention.
